  1. thanks everyone! some valid points mentioned here. I felt that the footage was SO sharp that we decided to put a blur of 1 on everything just to soften it up a bit....it looked a bit too video'ish, and it seemed to do wonders for this particular context. I used a fisheye lens for a couple scenes on the city roof scene. and then a wide-angle lens for a few of the shots in the brick warehouse...but 80% of everything was done with just the DVX100 lens. a lot of the quick blurs we added in post just to keep the rhythm going.....some like, some dont. keep it comin ya'll, thnks
  2. hey thnks ronney! much appreciated. the subtle blurs were used to try and keep the song moving.....but we're starting to wonder if its just more of a distraction. the shaking camera here and there is to keep the energy up so it doesn't become so much of a stale video like a lot I see anymore. :)
  3. let me know what ya'll think! :)....about anything! :) http://thinkmonkeymedia.com/tg1/

  5. seems to improve it quite a bit. thanks! now whats your method for putting that into the best DVD video possible. (4min. music video) I think once we get a good workflow for keeping our stuff in the original good quality as we see it in FCP onto different mediums the proper way... I'll be happy! :) keep it comin ya'll. thnks again
  6. its helpfull indeed! Upon rendering out uncompressed...it shows it with a little different colors. weird. when rendering, do you use: Quicktime movie, Compressor, or Convert to Quicktime option.? and when you choose "uncompressed", I've been using Quicktime movie/compressor-none/everything else-none. Or should I be using something else? Using DVX100, for rendering out like this...does it matter if its 8-bit or 10-bit? keep it comin, this is great ya'll ! (I've read that FCP does automatically apply a gamma setting to help it look best on the monitor, which confuses people when they try to render it down for tv. I dont want to get to the posthouse and find out its too bright/grainy etc. due to gamma settings, unless they can just fix it to look the best. Any thoughts to this issue as well?)
  7. very helpful! :) this is very annoying though. bottom line-----If you are wanting to submit a DVX100 music video for TV broadcast,.....what is the best route of getting it to them without losing ANY quality of image, color, res., etc... ??? print to tape, then posthouse it to digibeta?
  8. we're having a small issue with rendering out of FCP with some DVX100 footage.....Seems to be losing some color, brightens, and shows more grain! :( Even rendering out with "uncomp. 8bit" seems to look a bit this way. ?? But EVERYTHING LOOKS FANTASTIC IN FCP! :) any professional avenues on compressor choices, etc.., purpose is for release on BET--if that helps context of final delivery. a little TECHNICAL advice. thanks ??
  9. real easy dude. half the time they just take a perfect clear/clean fish tank and fill to desired water level where the frame wont show anything above or below to composition. then shoot shot upon drop of apple. shazaam! however, you're not gonna get a quality shot like the one you showed with DV, unless its an HVX200 or better. I'd recommend using a still 35mm camera and just dropping until you think you got it. And, expect to possibly photoshop out undesired reflections. As well as shooting with at least a 1000 shutter speed to capture no blur. :)
  10. shots were decent. I like the ones in the stairs. the short wasn't too bad...but the music was cheezy for me.
  11. I use a really nice light meter (usually for 16film) but would like to know what ISO to set it on for DVX100 because obviously there's no exposure rating (100D, 500T,etc.) for video. I use 24p advanced. for shutter, I use NO speed (off). anyone???
  12. found one on ebay (no lens & no accessories) for 10k. the more I investigate these matters concerning 35...... the more I'm leaning back to shooting our films with my 16mm and then just blowing up (providing we can push the film to that level) this way....if the film doesn't do so great, I haven't lost out on too much money...and can move on to the next project. But 35 can break ya. :( thanks yall.
  13. good to know David, didn't know they were coffee grinders. so OK!.....for the cheapest amount,...what are some opinions of the best 35 camera (sync-sound) for the money???
  14. You guys are GREAT! thanks for the opinions of experience and reason. :) definitely seeing pros/cons going rent and owning. I agree with the renting value of having top-of-line equipment. But I also completely RELATE to the fact that ownership takes stress off of you and the project .....;however, working with more slightly archaic equipment which makes it a little harder for the workflow, like syncsound possibly. at any rate, if the assumption is that you were all going to buy your 35camera........ What's the opinions on the camera of choice to go for??? (budget...lets say around 3-10k) thanks again...keep it comin. :)
  15. so lets figure we rent one for......ooohhh.....an average of $500/day. it takes lets say 30 days to shoot the feature. that comes to 15k just to rent the camera. :( Wouldn't it be better to find a decent Arri BL or something for 6k? and, have it as long as you want....not putting pressure on the project? just playing devil' advocate here! any thoughts to this? thanks ya'll.....makin us think this through........keep it comin.
  16. everyone..... I actually found this article about the movie world of investors/distributers/pre-sales/ etc.... it was REALLY helpful and encouraging information in exploring the level of taking your project to....... and a few avenues to HOW! http://www.iht.com/articles/2002/05/11/mfilm_ed3_.php keep it comin ya'll
  17. new indi movie maker looking to purchase an affordable 35. We've thought about shooting our future movies in 16 and then blowing up, cuz I already own a Bolex EBM as well as an Eclair NPR. But we really want to make our future investments REAL and SELLABLE! and, 35 is the theatrical standard. looking for opinions on your preference of the best 35 for the money!? or even on my comments....!? any discussion would be great. thanks ya'll
  18. [quote I'd sugjest considering shooting S16 and blowing up to 35 if your going to do a theatrical release...] because its quite a bit cheaper to shoot 16 and blow up to 35??? I thought blow up was really expensive. Plus, there's the quality issue, starting off with 35 sure boosts the quality level in trying to promote it and sell it. doesn't it? thanks for your time
  19. we are working out a script for a movie we would like to shoot this later fall,07. and this would be our first full feature. we've actually got a B Actor through a connection that is interested in doing it...which is our main force behind taking it to the next level. will be NEW at finding buyers/investors, etc... movie context: comedy. and, at this point we've really come to the decision that if we actually want to try and sell this....its gotta be in 35mm (at minimum, 16mm) NO VIDEO! unless anyone has anything to say about this theory/method......all ears! any help how to approach these issues would be invaluable! thanks yall

  22. needing a barney (sound cover) for my Bolex EBM as well as the magazine too. thinking about making my own, but like to get input from anyone who's seen/heard/or build their own. I've actually heard that the German method of using rabbit fur lined with canvas kills sound more than anything like fiberglass insulation, or other. any thoughts? any info might be helpful ? thanks christian
  23. haven't seen a "good watch" in a while. I liked it very much. :) The shot of him sitting down with the smoke stacks behind him is an extroadinary shot! Good story. Acting could've been stronger, but is decent...and doesn't bother me at all. Keep it up!
  24. thats what we did one time. we used a balloon and then took wrenolds wrap and made a couple real smooth wraps around the back and belly to flatten it a bit.....just be sure not to show any wrap folds or anything....has to be smooth. :) looks great
