Data Management - Backing Up Cards n Set
Ziggy Mueller posted a topic in Camera Accessories & ToolsAs an AC or DTI what is the best way you manage your captured data? Are there any standards or protocols? Is there a key device that is must have for backing up data? I guess this bridges into on set workflow which I'm sure differs from set to set, but in general how does everyone handle this? It seems that the growing size of memory cards (and their falling prices) make shooting on fewer cards easier, but does any one run backups while on set? The last film shoot I did was on film, the last digital shoot I did was still in the land of 7D and 1080p which was decently manageable. I've been out of the loop a bit and I'm curious going forward how I can prepare for a more modern workflow. Thanks!, Zig
Robert Boscacci posted a topic in Visual Effects CinematographyOdd request, but here goes: An upcoming script calls for the ability to record at least half-decent looking 720p at 24p for...3 hours straight, no cuts. One locked-off shot down a beach (powering everything is another question entirely) that has to just roll for 3 hours. This is not for timelapse: It needs to actually roll 24p for three hours continuously. What sort of camera (plus external recorder, potentially) system might you aficionados recommend for a task like this one? I have a 7D at my disposal, but I figure that won't do me much good. Probably looking at something with at least SDI out, wonder if there's a way to go direct to some spinning disk array or something... It's basically gonna be a parody of those YouTube videos that are just stock footage, like "3 Hours Tranquil Beach Waterfall Blue Skies," but in a dark demented sort of way. Thanks for trying! -Rob
PC software for data wrangling?
Mark Reedy posted a topic in AC's & DIT'sI'm wondering if anyone knows of software like Shotput that runs well on a PC? I just tried their PC v4 demo and man it is super slow! Also comes up with numerous errors and mismatched MD5's that are actually perfect when checked with other MD5 software.
History of krasnogorsk-3 camera
Ivan Juric posted a topic in Russian GearI just bought krasnogorsk-3 and while i'm waiting for it to arrive i started to search for some data about it. To be quick here are the two main questions that i can't find any reliable answer to: 1. When did the production of k3 start and when did it end (- i guess with the collaps of ussr)? 2. Are there any movies that were shot with k3 (- i'll have to wait for a week or two until it arrives from Russia to Croatia, so i would like to watch some movie filmed with k3)? Sorry if there's already a post that answers this questions, i went through a lot of posts about k3 but i couldn't find anything.
Does anyone have datasheets or other data on Eastman Color Negative 5254 or Eastman Color Negative 5247? Also data on other 35mm negative films used in the 1970's would be appreciated.
