danny bartle
I know its recommended to load up the film into a Bolex in a dark area but how dark does it have to be? When they say dark, do they mean in a darkbag or just in the shade?(not bright sunlight) Also how much leader is usually on a 100foot reel of 16mm film? H Carrere
If you are using a 100 foot day light spool in a shaded area you should be fine. I actually loaded my spool inside my truck. In my experience the first couple of seconds of my footage are over exposed, so to be safe i usually run the camera and count to about 10 then being my shoot. Nate Downes
A trick I worked out awhile back was to have a "cowel" that covers the inner reel. That way, nothing is exposed save the little bit of film I run through the camera to get it loaded. Works like a charm. I have a cowel for each reel in the camera, and switch them all around during loaded. I pre-load reels with the cowel so it's just a quick snach n grab to get the film loaded.
