How can I work with LUTs...Novice question

Hi everybody,

I am little worried about how it's the proper way to import a LUT into the camera and how I can create one of them. Why do I want to use a LUT instead the Rec 709? How is the exposure...?

I'm sorry for not understanding very well how this system works but I would like to learn it because I see it's used a lot in fiction and also before shooting in many camera tests.
