Hello all!

I have for sale two zoom lenses that were made for 16mm cameras.

1 x Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 10-100mm f/1.8 T* Type II

1 x Cooke Varokinetal 9-50mm T2.5 Taylor Hobson

Both lenses are listed on ebay, (links above) but for cinematography members I would discount the prices by 20%

I have been asked quite a lot about coverage of S16 and whether the lenses vignette at the wide end.

I have found that the Cooke covers from 16mm and above (making it effectively a 16-50mm) and the Zeiss covers S16 from around 18mm and above, making it useable as an 18-100mm.

The Zeiss coverage of S16 on the wide end can be slightly dependent on the aperture selected, but it is vignette free at all apertures from 25mm and above.

I tried to make some simple rear projection tests but found it too difficult to accurately photograph the results. So instead I mounted both lenses on a Red Komodo in 6k mode which shows the entire image circle of the lenses, and then overlaid the correct dimensions for both R16 and S16. I'm attaching both pics below, but if you need higher quality please ask me as I took a bunch of different shots in different crop modes. Interestingly both lenses are somewhat useable in 4k mode and in 2k crop there is no vignette at all.

I love the character of the Cooke lens, it's a nicely rendering bit of glass. However the Zeiss may be more of a natural extension to a set of primes giving more range.
