Unknown Optical Assembly

I'm not sure just what this is from so I thought I would post it here in case it comes from some sort of projection apparatus. I got these in a box of assorted optics and there is no markings on them anywhere to indicate their function. The glass appears to be a flat plate, not a lens. The clips hold the glass in place but also appear to act as tensioners which allows this entire unit to be placed in a tube or other mechanism and held there. The glass is about 50mm in diameter and 3mm thick -- the entire unit is about 75mm in diameter. Anybody out there recognize this? Thanks.

Hello,

Possibly:  "Beam Projector."

Think miniature WWII searchlight.  (8"-12" Diameter)

Originally used in stage "Theatre."  Casts a straight and narrow beam for longer distances than "fresnel" or "LekoLite."

I haven't seen or used one since 1969-1970 so my memory of their "innards" may be faulty.

Check an old, old Mole-Richardson catalog.

If you time a visit to a night-time movie premier along Hollywood Blvd. you should see the resemblance.
