McGooGoo
Dear Group, I am looking to buy a lighting kit for use with mainly video. In the past I have used Lowell DP lights, work lights, and a variety of other inexpensive lights I have picked up. I would know like to spend about $1000 to buy a kit that will give me some flexibility. What kit would you recommend? Thank you
Premium Member Brian Wells Posted March 5, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted March 5, 2006 My personal kit is a small Kino Flo and Dedolight with various clamps and stands for mounting. If I could do it over again for the same money ($1500ish), I'd probably start out with a used 1200w magnetic ballast HMI and learn to light properly using bounce boards. Although, that light would be worthless for interviews, so it's hard to say. I think it all depends on what you're trying to light. Small lights won't help much for lighting in the daytime. Jamie Metzger
an arri kit would help (1k, 650 and a 300w). Atleast you can use that for interviews, shooting stills (portraiture), and anything else that doesn't require huge setups, and imitating daylight. Use that and get a rental fee per day you bring it on board. You should be able to save up enough for bigger or more specialized lights from there on.
