Guest stoop
Amongst other lights, I have available a 4ft - 4 bank Kino to use for a music video tomorrow. I have never used a Kino before so I'm asking for any tips or advice to get the best out of these. I guess people use them as a very soft key light. Many Thanks
Premium Member Chris Cooke Posted March 20, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted March 20, 2006 I guess people use them as a very soft key light. Or a fill light or an eye light, etc. I sometimes put 4 banks on dolly's to illuminate forground objects as I dolly. Try swaping 'em out with regular flourescent tubes as a practical. I sometimes put white gaff tape on the tubes. It gives them a nice warm color while diffusing them a bit (it knocks down the light level as well). Cannonfodder
Personally I love kinos, one nice thing is if you have them walking and singing into the camera the a 4x4 kino can easily be walked beside the camera and you well get a nice glow. Plus they aren't too heavy. Of course this depends on your ISO cuz a 4x4 may not cut it. They also make a nice fill light One thing you must be careful of is not to make everything flat and bland because kinos do have a bit of throw.
