Joe Taylor
Trying to justify the purchase of a XLH1. Since at the present there is really no way to present HDV material after editing in the practical real-world, I am wondering if footage shot with an Canon XL2 (16:9, 30P) will compete with HDV footage shot with an XLH1 after it has been down converted to SD (16:9, 30f). Has anybody had the opportunity to compare this scenario? If so, can you offer with a no BS assessment? Thank you.
Jack Barker
Hey Joe - I think the simple practical answer is, no real difference. I think there may be some tricks you could do in down-converting the XLH1 footage to make it look a bit better, but that's beyond my capacity and understanding, since I don't own any HD gear. Here's a link from the website of a DP pal that you might find interesting. The SD/HD sample grabs are quite interesting. http://www.film-and-video.com/sdhd.html
Joe Taylor
That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Jack.
