Normal focal length?

Seems we just had this thread recently...

It depends on both what you consider "normal" and what you want to compare it to. A 23mm lens on a 2/3" 16x9 chip gives you similar angle of view to a 50mm lens on 35mm Academy 1.85:1.

This may help: http://www.panavision.co.nz/main/kbase/ref...lenseqvform.asp

But in a pinch just remember that 2/3" optics behave rather like 16mm, using focal lengths close to 1/2 that of 35mm. From there you have to adjust your figure up or down a bit depending on what you're comparing (which aperture/format of 35mm, which aperture of 16mm, and which shape 2/3" chip).
