Jimmy Browning
What's the history of Panavision's MKII Lenses? And how do they compare to the Primos? I noticed that some are "Z" series (Zeiss). Who's optics are the non-"Z" series?
Premium Member Kevin Zanit Posted May 19, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted May 19, 2007 If I remember correctly the "Z" Series MKIIs come as either Ultra Speeds (the serial# being USZ[focal length]) Super Speeds (SZ[fl]), and I think the non-Z series lenses are just regular old Ultra, Super or Normal speed lenses with a PV mount, whereas the Z series are rehoused with Panavision mechanics. Premium Member chris bangma Posted May 20, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted May 20, 2007 The Z series lenses are Zeiss, the old super speeds and ulta speeds are by various companies, canon, nikon, and whoever else. The Primos are made by Leitz.

I'm interested in learning more about lenses in general as well; their history, how they work, comparisons between the optics of different companies, specialty lenses, etc. Know any good books?
