James Steven Beverly
I just watched Pan's Labyrinth last night and I can't figure this one out, How in the Hell did they do the scene where the maid slices the captain's mouth open, then later, he sews it up?! At first I thought foam latex prosthetic but I don't see, concidering how much his mouth is cut open, it's possible. If it is, it's the best prosthetic I've ever seen. Then I thought CGI but it looks to real. Maybe she really cut him. Now that's what I call method acting! :D Edited August 24, 2007 by James Steven Beverly

Will Earl
According to Cinefex 109 (I'm paraphrasing here, for more detail see the issue), they used a thin prosthetic piece with a blue backing in the cut. They then tracked the face and texture mapped the interior of the mouth. A well-executed use of physical and digital make-up effects.
