A cinematography.com forums member is also a 35mm cinema camera manufacturer with own stuff released and running on the streets -- this is a rare événement. This weekend is a holiday in the states, will that botch the shipping? Are they being overnighted? UPS? FedEx? USPS??!?! Such of a lack of REAL information. I say it can't possibly be true! For serious though, t'will be nice to have REAL discussions about the camera. I for one think it's going to revolutionize the porn world. Much higher production values. OK maybe they EXPECT to start deliveries on Friday, and it's not that far away, but RED have had always been in the habit of emphatically stating what they "WILL" do, rather than what they hope or expect to do. Then we get over run with fanboys who seem to sincerely believe that they have actually used a RED camera. eg: "This is a great moment. All those who said 'Vapourware' should now go and hide in a cave." Actually, until we see it working for ourselves, it still is pretty much vapourware.... "Man, watching the developments and being a part of this community over the past year or so, I feel like I actually have a Camera coming on Friday" I just wish people wouldn't come here talking like they really believe that. But there's still not a single post on REDuser from anyone expecting to take delivery on Friday. You'd think there's be at least ONE! Just once, I would dearly love to hear from somebody in a position to know the answer. Not parrot what they've heard from someone equally ignorant. Oh well, watch this space. We are calibrating each camera and my job is to check the files in RED Alert! that Jarred is shooting. We are shooting ISO 320, 1000 and 2000. There are about 20 people here getting ready for tomorrow. It really is a memorable night. About a year and a half ago this was just a dream. Tonight the dream has become a reality. OK I'll tell you what, you show me where I actually said those things, and I'll give you a list of projects I've worked on for last couple of years. Hint: I never said it couldn't be done, and I never said it couldn't be sold for that price. Jannard can spend as much on the RED as he wants and sell it for whatever price he wants. Whether he makes a profit out of it is an entirely different matter. And if he finds he can't, how long is he going to be prepared to subsidize the project. Hard questions, some might say even rude questions, but legitimate ones for anybody who has worked in this industry for any length of time. What I HAVE said is that A. It will not replace 35mm film, and even Jannard himself has confirmed it was never intended to do that B. It will not make an inexperienced nobody with 25 grand to throw away into an employable cinematographer or rental company. I never "left the forum", I still want information on the RED. I just don't need it as quickly as I did before. And I am annoyed by the thought that people who come here seeking information are only going to get to read the blatherings of the likes of Jan von Krogh.
