GRAINY look in "The Center of the World"

I'm a fan of Molly Parker and watched "Center of the World". It's well done and Peter

Sarsgard is quite good too. I have read that it was shot on some digital media but

haven't been able to find out what exactly. However, this film seems to revel in

ultra noisy/grainy images. Clearly seems to be an aesthetic decision because it's

so extreme but I don't understand why. I would have watched anyway but this look is

so heavy at times that it's distracting, albeit mildly because the performers are

so good.

Anybody have any opinions or info. on this? Thanks.
