J Costantini
Hi. Do you guys really recommend people to move from the first DVX100 to the DVX100A model? Why should someone do that? Is it really worth it? What are the basic and main differences between the two models? Thanks a lot.
Bob Hayes
I am currious also. I do know the 100A has auto focus. It is a liitle slow.

Alvin Pingol
If I'm not to be mistaken, the A model has been bumped up from an 8-bit A/D converter to 12-bit, which can make a noticeable difference in image quality. However, as Phil Rhodes stated in an earlier thread, one may not even be able to see much of a difference since the signal is being laid onto an 8-bit format, MiniDV, in the end anyway. The 12-bit converter would be more beneficial for in-camera color/contrast adjustments, or anything else that's done before the signal is put onto tape. Mitch Gross
The 12-bit does add a lot, as do the extra gamma selections in the menu. Most of the other upgrades are fairly minor but nice: SMPTE color bars in 24p mode, quick resetting of the camera when changing frame modes, additional shutter speeds, access to auto focus and gain controls in 24p, etc. Nothing earth shattering, but it does make for a more functional camera. Made the difference to me--I just bought one.
