Jason McKelvey
One more thing... when broadcasting the playback for the band/singer, use a CD, not a cassette... the digital signal from a CD will be 10000x more stable and save you a big headache when trying to sync things in post. Don't forget to send an audio line to the camera, or put an ambient mic on the camera to capture sound. J
Randy Havens
I just shot a hip hop video in NY. I was really surprised when the mayors office said we couldn't shoot north of 96th street. We wanted to shoot in Harlem, but we shot in Lowereast side instead. I guess it kind of makes sense, but it still feels very wrong. Also they made sure we had a cop in every location, which never happened to me before. The funny thing is that the cop they assigned us was very nice, and helped us out a lot. I also just found out that you cant play audio outside anymore. We were shooting in Time Square, and there was a GWAR (heavy metal) video filming a block down from us. They actually had earphones feeding them audio and were performing to it. It looked very scary... My colorist told me that music video production in NY has gone down dramatically these days. Its kind of scary...
