Mike Brennan
I have a project where we need to fit a comapct 35mm camera into a aerial rig. What would be the camera of choice? Lightweight Small Ideally dual pin Availability of lightweight mags. Video tap. We can rebuild and fabricate minor bits. Budget is a consideration lets say under $35k. Something old or something new? Mitch Gross
Well the Mitchells had the best movements, but you need lightweight. You could try an old Arri BL, they're fairly light with 400' mags and without the lens blimp. Don't know the price but you should check out www.compositefilmcameras.com as they make custom BL-style cameras out of Kevlar graphite. They list weights in their ads of a camera with 1000' mag and eyepiece/vid tap at 6.12 ibs and camera with 500' mag & video only of just 4.6 ibs (not including lens or film). The camera was developed for their other product, which is a rig that floats the camera under a large helium balloon (www.theflyingeyeproject.com). Pretty cool. Mike Brennan <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Go with a Atton 35 III it has 1/2000 th vertical steadines the best out there except foe the mitchells used for optical printing the best Arri and Panavision can do is 1/1200 th. It is very light and 400' mags are small also. Comes with PL or Pana mounts so you can use all kinds of different lenses from primos to cooke s4's.
