James Steven Beverly
What would be a good, reasonably priced set of professional quality headphone for a soundman and boom operator? Basically the Audio-Technica shotgun mic equivalent in headphones. B)
Pete Von Tews
You can't go wrong with Sony 7506 headphones. They sound great and are an industry standard, and under 100$.

I use them for recording and listening and even with my metal detector. lol

Mike Wallach
You want headphones that are preferably flat and get good mid-ranges. You don't want crappy ones that only hear lows or super ones that only hear highs.
Premium Member Walter Graff Posted March 17, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted March 17, 2008 One word of caution. Sony makes two versions of these, one in Japan and one in China. Guess which one falls apart so much easier. Make sure you are getting the made in Japan version.
Premium Member Hal Smith Posted March 17, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted March 17, 2008 AKG K240M and K271S headphones are my weapons of choice. The 240's are open back and the 271's are closed back. I use whichever is most appropriate. The 7506's are also good but I've used AKG headphones forever as reference headphones.
