Andrew OLeary Posted February 15, 2008 Share Posted February 15, 2008 According to a certain website the roll of the cameraman have key skills that include: a a good sense of visual composition, perspective and movement; b physical co?ordination and strength; c ability to combine creativity with technical skills; d precise attention to detail; e effective communication skills; f ability to collaborate, and to work as part of a team; g diplomacy and sensitivity when working with artists and crew; h knowledge of the requirements of the relevant Health and Safety legislation and procedures. Is there anything missing from this list? Well, i think there's a lot missing from it, but maybe because I believe you can't really write such a list. How do you judge "a good sense of visual composition" between two or more people that have it? How do you measure the ability to combine creativity with technical skills? Maybe this is not the reply you were expecting, but I think a list like this is pretty much useless: a good cameraman has to have all the things on the list, and perhaps a lot more, but in the end there are thousands of cameramen out there that could agree with that list and still be so different from each other.
