Capturing 24p from HVX with FCP 5

Editors of Cinematography.com,

I've researched this topic all over, but seem to always get different results/answers.

I shot 24p (SD) to miniDV on an Panasonic HVX, and I'm looking to capture and edit with FCP 5. My problem is that I'm confused as to what settings to use. I've read that I should use the "easy setup" 23.98 advanced pulldown removal, and I've also read that I should simply capture in 29.97 since that's the frame rate that the video was truly recorded at. Also, what about aspect ratio? The HVX shoots 16:9, so should I have that selected? Same with interlaced vs. progressive: is this "24p" truly progressive? I get different results when experimenting with different settings -- sometimes the quality is jagged and pixelated and sometimes it's clearer. And sometimes, well, the entire program freezes up.

Help!
