Please critique my rough demo reel.

Recommended Posts

I find it really hard to critique without being blunt. So apologies in advance if I cause any bad feeling.

These are the things that in my opinion you could reconsider:

The music

Playground shots

Pan through the line of trees

Taped barn doors

Blown out sun.

The guy holding the basketball with the kid (its too long)

Otherwise you have some cool stuff on there.

The first third of the video is not as strong as the last two. I don't know if you MUST lose the shots listed above to make the reel better . . . The music is a little touchy-feely but it goes well with the images.

What I would probably do is re edit the piece and intersperse strong images with not so strong ones to give it more of a evened out rhythm, because there are some cool shots, it is just that they are lumped in the middle/ end. . . I would start with some people shots and then non-people shots and so on. And put a cool shot at the beginning! You want to draw people in from the first shot.

I like the shot of the moon and the crystal ball the best myself, good job.

Saul, I'm not one to be pedantic but I must correct you in the fact that I didn't say MUST but COULD.

2 very different meanings.
