Hand cranking exposure for Bolex

Just wondering... I plan on trying some hand cranking on my Bolex Rex-4. Does anyone know some general tips for f-stops? Also, with the 1:1 shaft: Is it even possible?

I suggest using the 8:1 shaft. Turning it twice per second gives you 16 fps or silent film speed if that is the effect you're going for. So expose for around 16 fps speed. Turning 3 times per second to get 24 fps or sound speed is possible but you'll wear your arm out quickly.

I just hand cranked 1/2 of a 100' roll in my H8. It was processed yesterday. I shot at the meter suggested reading figuring I was still keeping close to the actual speed selected due to the governor not letting me over run the set speed by much if at all. I'll know how that worked in a few days.

H8 is nice to play with especially if you can run 100' loads. Lots of run time... : )
