gabor lacza
Hello, I am new at filmmaking but want to learn more and more...I am setting up and editind station for my self to edit super16mm film with a non linear editing system.I am curious if which one would be a better solution quality wise if I telecine the footage to mini dv and buy a mini dv vtr or if i telecine to Betacam SP and buy a Betacam SP VTR ? Digi beta is out of the question since the prices are too high and it is difficult to rent one in my country... Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Gabor
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted November 3, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted November 3, 2004 I'd probably stick to digital (beta-SP is analog) if you are going to import the footage directly into your computer and create the master there, as opposed to take an EDL elsewhere for an online session. In that case, I'd suggest something like DVCAM and getting a DSR-11 deck for it. But you'd have even better quality if you could go up to a DV50 codec format (DVCPRO50, IMX) rather than DV25 (Mini-DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO).
