I have a macbook now and plan to keep it for my first two years, but I was looking into external hard drives for next as I have to have one and I need one shortly due to short film I'm filming. But I don't know what would be best. I know I want something with at least 500 GB and firewire, but my school says to get a HD with an OXFORD 911 or 922 chip and I cannot finding anything like that around where I live. Premium Member Tim O'Connor Posted July 15, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted July 15, 2008 I asked a computer friend and he said, "Some early Firewire drives used a different set of hardware to control the drive, and it couldn't handle video speeds. Everyone uses the Oxford chip set now." I've used Lacies and Maxtors.
