mark leuchter
Hi folks. Someone is offering to sell me a Russian 10-100 zoom lens for a very low price. I am attaching two pics of this mystery lens in the hopes that someone here can answer the following quesitons I have: 1 - what brand is it and does it have a decent performance record? 2 - what is the minimum focal distance? 3 - is this an arri mount pictured (probably not, I'm sure)? 4 - if it is not an arri mount, how expensive is the conversion process to MAKE it an arri mount? 5 - is this lens now, or has it ever been, a member of the communist party? Just kidding on the last one, but the other questions are legit, so help me out if you can. Many thanks, Mark Edited November 4, 2004 by mark leuchter
Premium Member Sean Morris Posted November 4, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted November 4, 2004 Hi Mark, 1, Its a kinor 16 lens from a kinor camera. I own two of these lenses never had a problem very tack sharp with nice multi-coating, one problem is that on S16 it only works from 50mm up..so you loose a lot on the wider end of the lens 3, No, it is a Kinor mount, 4, I have had my Kinor and Kinor lens converted to S16 and PL mount so I guess a arri mount is possible? 5, Of course! :)...Cheers Sean
mark leuchter
Thanks Sean. How does it compare to, say, the Zeiss 10-100 Mk 2 in terms of sharpness and color saturation?
Premium Member Sean Morris Posted November 4, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted November 4, 2004 Thanks Sean. How does it compare to, say, the Zeiss 10-100 Mk 2 in terms of sharpness and color saturation? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very, very, good..I have never seen a film print projected from this lens, only a telecine transfer which we were intercuting with an ARRI SR2 with a Zeiss 10-100..transfered on a Sony Telecine The shots matched pretty good in colour, contrast and sharpness, I found the Kinor lens a bit more "smoother?"..and a slight tad warmer.. My conversion to PL mount was done by Les Bosher who did an amazing job with machining a new mount. Cheers Sean
mark leuchter
Is the Kinor camera itself an MOS piece or is it quiet enough for sync sound work?
Premium Member Sean Morris Posted November 4, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted November 4, 2004 Sync-Sound...:) very easy to thread and nice to hand hold as well Cheers Sean
mark leuchter
Sean, when you had your Kinor lens adapted to s-16, how did it affect focal length and f-stop? (and do you have any footage you shot with it that I could view on video or DVD?) Edited November 8, 2004 by mark leuchter

(and do you have any footage you shot with it that I could view on video or DVD?) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Kinor lens covers the super 16 frame from 50-100mm below 50 it vignettes.. For the money ( it usually sells for around US $100.00ish )I dont think you could get a better deal on a zoom lens! No, I only have BetacamSP (PAL) raw telecine footage shot with the Kinor lens. I could email you some screen grabs. Cheers Sean
Javier Calderon
Sync-Sound...:) very easy to thread and nice to hand hold as well Cheers Sean Um . . . What about its db level, Sean? Is it a loud/noisy camera? I've been slowly but surely investigating what type of sync sound camera to get, and had been leaning toward an ACL2, as I keep reading about them being about the best sync sound camera in their price range - most everything else (Bolex, etc) being much too loud and fit more for MOS work, and the only cameras as good or better for sync sound being much more expensive. So does this Kinor really fare well enough as a sync sound piece? Thanks very much, Javier Edited May 20, 2006 by JavierC
Guest oopee
Is it possible to modify the 10-100 lens to super 16 that it would cover super16 in wide angles too, like the zeiss converted to 12-120.
Premium Member Chris Keth Posted May 20, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted May 20, 2006 Is it possible to modify the 10-100 lens to super 16 that it would cover super16 in wide angles too, like the zeiss converted to 12-120. Probsbly, but I doubt if anyone has figured out the optical specs for it yet. A procedure like that would cost ten times the cost of the lens.
