Roy Baake
Hello all This is my first post here, I hope someone can answer my question... I do alot surfing cinematography which means I use some long lens, mostly a Nikon 300mm 2.8 on a Bolex SBM...Very Heavy. I'm looking for a modern lens support solution. I'm thinking 15mm rods with 60mm on-center and perhaps a Zacuto lens support, follow focus and matte box. Has anyone done or seen a Bolex configured in this way? Adjustable for super 16? Thaks for your help Roy B.

Premium Member Oliver Christoph Kochs Posted May 24, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted May 24, 2009 Hello RoyJB, i had that same problem. The original Bolex rods are worth nothing as they are not industry standard. I ended up with this: http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?s=...st&p=274802 http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?s=...st&p=274830 This stuff is custom made for a very reasonable price from a camera engineer named Les Bosher in the UK. Guest Glenn Brady
Yea Simon, I've seen that but I dont think you can configure it for a lens support and follow focus The principal purpose of the Bolex light optical bench (code SUTEL) was the support of long lenses, but it was introduced in 1964 - before follow focus devices were common - and the diameter of its rods and their spacing is non-standard. If your need is just to support long lenses, it's a very good accessory. There was a listing just ended at eBay that offered what may suit your purposes. It's http://cgi.ebay.com/ACS-Custom-Rod-Support...1QQcmdZViewItem.
