Lemony Snicket

Recommended Posts

I dont know much about the books, but does anyone know if they will try to turn this into a sort of "Harry Potter" for Paramount? In saying that I mean I wonder if they are going to turn the books into a series of films (Like Harry Potter) or if this will just be a solitary movie.

I understand there are like 11 books, and they used the first 3 in this movie.

I guess it may depend a lot on how well it does as fare as money for the studio?

The film itself dont look all that exciting though....

Wow, it looks just like Sleepy Hollow!

Wow, all the key designers did exactly the same work on Sleepy Hollow, five years ago!: Colleen Atwood, Rick Heinrich's.... Emmanuel Lubeski!

Siberling you post-modern hack, BE ORIGINAL- for Lord's sake, Burton was shamelessly derivitive on the form prioritising Sleepy Hollow, Gordon Bennett...

Hello Landon,

Lubezki used Vision2 500T(18) to shoot Lemony Snicket's(just one stock).

He says in American Cinematographer that Snicket's color scheme excludes

primary colors in favor of blacks and grays. He says they wanted very dark

colors to surround the actor's faces. He also says that this is the first time that

he has ever gelled his lights. He says this is the first time he's done an entire

film with just 500ASA stock. He wanted to use the 200ASA stock but said that

sets were just to big. He overexposed it by 1/3 stop, and sometimes more. He

used Deluxe's Adjustable Color Contrast(ACE,in hollywood). This was his posi-

tive printing process for his dailies. He used Deluxe's CCE(Color Contrast Enha-

ncement) on the Sleepy Hollow shoot. Here he wanted to desaturate the colors.

He says though that "ACE" is a more controllable process. Kodak Vision 2383

print stock was used for all the "ACE" trials. He liked the idea of using(18) to

keep the faces from becoming too hard. He used mostly wide angle lenses to

shoot Snicket's. He used a Primo 21mm as his normal lens. But he also used a

27mm and a 40mm(close-ups). He wanted to shoot at T2.8 but of course couldn't.

Very good article Landon and you should read it if you get a chance. Its on page 38

and is entitled A Darker Side of Fantasy.

MERRY XMAS LANDON,HAPPY NEW YEAR,HAPPY SHOOTING-Greg
