Matt Rosen
I was wondering if anyone knew what they did to get the look of the scene from Sunshine when Pinbacker first appears on the Icarus II. What would be the minimum requirements as far as lighting goes for shooting such a scene?

What would be the minimum requirements as far as lighting goes for shooting such a scene? If you're talking about the overexposed, backlit look inside the observation chamber, I believe they built a wall of hanging mirrors and bounced something like a Dino into it (24 1K PAR's) plus had a white backing of some sort, also lit with something huge. You aren't going to get to those levels on a student movie with a few tweenies, unless you limited yourself to a close-up size to deal with. You're probably better off building a black tent outside (to silhouette the actor) and using mirrors and shiny boards, real sunlight, and a white sheet on a frame to get that level of overexposure.
