Yea I know im a noob um, noob and Director of Photography are contradictory terms when describing oneself. The Director of Photography is one of the if not [the] most experienced person on Set. Change that to: "... on a PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRY set." :) ANYONE can call themselves ANYTHING at anytime no matter their experience or skillset. Isn't that the Capitalist Way? ;) The point is, there are two primary ways to becoming a DP as a career. One is to begin as a Loader or 2nd AC and slowly work your way up through the ranks, with absolutely NO guarantees that you'd ever move up to the next level, muchless to DP status. The other is to just go out and "be" a DP, which means that while there is likely a lot that the person needs to learn, he will gain experience as he goes while being recognized as a DP to those who meet or hear about him. So, no, being a "noob" and "DP" at the same time are not necessarily mutually exclusive. There have been a few "noobs" who have jumped into the arena with practically no experience who are now at the top of the heap. And there are plenty who have tried that who have failed. But in the end, the DP may or may not be the "most experienced person on Set." Any number of people, from Grips to Electrics, to ACs, or Set Decorators may have oodles more experience than a DP at any given time. :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Isn't that the Capitalist Way? ;) No.. that is how Socialism works... just take it ;).... also (as a DP) I did not take either of the routes you mentioned... there are other routes as well.
