Ken Zukin
Those of you who aren't working/attending class today might want to tune in to Turner Classic Movies at 1 PM (PDT) for a showing of "Ride The Pink Horse." The DOP is Russell Metty, who is probably better known for his work in Orsen Wells' "Touch of Evil." Of course the movie is in glorious black and white, and Metty is a master with the medium. This movie IMO is a great example of how to separate foreground from backround, and he also is masterful at using what Michael Nash calls "top chop." The movie itself is pretty terriffic too. Sort of an existential Film Noir. Enjoy, Ken Z.
