For the first time, the annual showcase of Oscar®- nominated documentary films will be screened in New York at the Directors Guild of America Theater (110 West 57th Street) on Saturday, February 19, 2005. For the 23rd consecutive year, DocuDay Los Angeles will be held on Saturday, February 26 at the Writers Guild of America (135 South Doheny Drive). In both venues, screenings will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until midnight. For both New York and Los Angeles, moviegoers can see a complete schedule and/or purchase tickets for DocuDay at www.documentary.org. Tickets will also be available at the door on a first come basis. General admission is $10 per program or $55 for a full day pass. Tickets for students/seniors/IDA/WGA/DGA/WIF/WMM/IFP members are $8 per program or $45 for a full day pass. The annual showcase, which receives major support from Sundance Channel, features screenings of the Oscar®-nominated documentaries, both shorts and features followed by discussions with the filmmakers (subject to availability). Documentary feature films nominated for the 77th Annual Academy Awards® are Born into Brothels (Ross Kauffman, Zana Briski), The Story of the Weeping Camel (Luigi Falorni, Byambasuren Davaa), Super Size Me (Morgan Spurlock), Tupac: Resurrection (Lauren Lazin, Karolyn Ali), and Twist of Faith (Kirby Dick, Eddie Schmidt). Films nominated in the documentary short category are Autism Is a World (Gerardine Wurzburg), The Children of Leningradsky (Hanna Polak, Andrzej Celinski), Hardwood (Hubert Davis, Erin Faith Young), Mighty Times: The Children's March (Robert Hudson, Bobby Houston) and Sister Rose's Passion (Oren Jacoby, Steve Kalafer). In addition to the DocuDay screenings, the IDA is hosting its 23rd Annual Celebration of the Academy Award® Documentary Nominees on Wednesday, February 23, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (8949 Wilshire Blvd. Beverly Hills). The celebration, which also receives major support from Sundance Channel, features presentations to each filmmaker, clips from their Oscar®-nominated films, and is followed by a reception. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.documentary.org and will also be available at the door based on availability. Tickets prices are $80 for general public and $50 for seniors/students/IDA/AMPAS/WGA members.
