Jonathan Burton
Hi everybody, planning to shoot in Red and then print it on film. which format shoul I chose between 4k Wild screen and 4K 16:9 to print it on film? thinks You have the choice of 4K 16:9, 4K 2:1 or 4K HD. If you have the 4.5K upgrade then this is automatically 2.4:1 I believe. It really depends on your intended aspect ratio. If you are framing for 2.4:1 and cropping your 4K image to get it the either 16:9 or 2:1. As a guide, 16:9 works out to be 1.78:1 so 2:1 is a slightly wider format, but depending on your workflow more problematic. The best bet (although I have not used it mysepf) would be the 4.5K upgrade. 4KHD is designed for HD outputs and is literally 4 lots of HD (1920x1080). Your choice needs to be influenced by workflow as well. Are you going out to 16 or 35? Anamorphic print or 1.85:1 crop?
