Tenolian Bell
I remeber a few years back there was film calculator and field of view software. I think it was called P Cine or somehting like that. I thought it was a great idea, I thought the software needed more functionality, and improved graphics. Another drawback is that it was only for the Palm OS. I had a Palm for awhile but stopped using it after I got a Mac iBook. The lap top is just much more useful than a Palm. I was hoping someone would improve the film calculator and field of view software and bring it to the desktop OS (OS X and Windows). I found it really useful in preproduction. I'm surprised no one has done it so far.
Tenolian Bell
Also in thinking about it. That software graphically displayed depth of field and light photometrics based on foot candles and distance from the source. I did not use it on set so much, but as a guide in preproduction. It gave me a way to show the Director graphically the concepts of depth of field and field of view. Helped us pick lenses and use depth of field for story telling. Its interesting no one has taken that software idea and made a better version.
