Stereo3D ' Beauty Shot' comparisons

Last week I shot a series of tests with a subject in MCU at various distances, and IAs. I tried to maintain identical framing throughout. They were shot against a green screen, and three different background have been pasted in.

We shot this using a pair of Panasonic 371s (yes, I know), but they sync'd up (most of the time!) gave consistent zoom settings, and even started to record at exactly the same frame, which saved time in editing. Post was in AE, keyed with Primatte, and a big dollop of Red Giant Looks. The mirror caused me problems with color matching which I've not managed to completely fix, but hopefully no-one here experiences any severe retinal rivalry issues! :D

 

Focal lengths - my thinking is that two cameras at the same distance, IA, and framing will produce much the same result in terms of depth space distortion, whatever their lens and chip combination. It's the distance/IA combination that matters. (But if I'm wrong about this, I'm very keen to hear why.) However, to try to be useful I've quoted the equivalent lens had this been shot on an Alexa, which has been problematic since none of the look-up tables for converting chip sizes agree! So a huge pinch of salt is needed there.

BTW The reason my name is on every frame is because some folks have gone and used my material (while pitching for a job!) without crediting the source. :angry: Whoah! No more of that.
