What is Bleach Bypass and flashing the negative

Hey sorry for sounding naive, still new and learning, but was reading an article on Darious Khondji about bleach bypass, on Alien Resseruection, didnt really understood what was being said, could anyone tell me what exactly it is aswell as what does it mean when you flash the negative?

Go to "search" at the top of the screen, fill in "bleach bypass" or "flashing". select "Film Stocks and Processing" to search in (I think you'll find it's more appropriate than "lighting"). And sit back and read hundreds of messages about the very subject.
