Mark Allen
While you can renta 35mm screening room for about $500 or so, it seems that it is hard to find one even close to that price if you want to project a D5. Does anyone here know of any options? Thanks.

Mark Allen
American Hi Definition will rent you the projectors you need.http://www.hi-def.com/ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the tip. Veeeery pricey though. We've found a place that will project the movie, but for $3500 - which is cheaper than a rental plus room rental, but it is still very pricey for a screening. 10% the price of a 35mm blow up from HD. Premium Member John Pytlak RIP Posted March 31, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 High end digital cinema projectors are still much more expensive than the equivalent 35mm equipment to fill a large screen, and their anticipated useful life is shorter. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted March 31, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 The studios have HD DLP projection in their screening rooms, like at the Little Fox Theater on the Fox lot. I also used one once at one of the big agencies (I think it was CAA?) Not a big screen though. The biggest DLP screening room in town is probably the ETC Lab at the Hollywood Pacific, but that isn't cheap to rent. The Hollywood Film School also has a decent theater with DLP projection. Some of the labs also have DLP projection, like at Laser Pacific, which has a nice big screening room. Some of these places require that you rent the deck and bring it in. Not many have HD-D5 decks in them, for example, that being more of an expensive post house deck. HDCAM decks are more common but some don't have any decks and require you bring one in. The other option is to rent a theater like the Harmony Gold and rent a DLP projector from a place like American Hi-Def.
Premium Member John Sprung Posted March 31, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 31, 2005 Our projection department can do it in either the 284 seat house or the 91 seat room. But the price is $650 for setup plus $350 per hour, daytime only. After 6 PM, they want $3,000. Ask your video post facility. If you're doing enough other work there, they may be able to squish the numbers around to make it work. It's TV pilot season right now, things will be a lot easier to book after the first week of May. -- J.S.
Mark Allen
Thanks for the responses everyone. The Hollywood Film School no longer rents their theater. Apparently their classes have grown so large that it is now in constant use. However, the Wilshire Screening Room http://www.studioscreenings.com/ seems like the most affordable option. Smaller theater though - 45 seats or so... but that's enough for distribution screenings. Thanks again.
