Shooting a music video.

I almost titled this "shooting a rock video".

I've worked on a few, but I can't remember too much from years past. The director always seemed to work from a shot list instead of a script. A few seemed to wing it.

I've never shot one myself. Do you script it out, or just work from a shot list and/or storyboard?

Thanks for any insight.

After the concept is established, I storyboard the shots to the song by listening to it over and over. Sometimes I put the lyrics that will be playing under each board, so it's pretty specific, but not a script. Obviously there are plenty of music videos that shoot lots of cameras with lots of angels and plenty of options in the editing room for some quick editing. In that case I would want a written script as a guideline for all our coverage.
