Joshua Shreve
Hello all. Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm rather new to film. I just purchased an Argus 802 Model A Super 8 camera via Ebay for next to nothing and it's in great shape and seems functional, however when looking down the lens I saw something I didn't recognize. I'm wondering if someone could tell me what this is and if it is supposed to be there, or if this is something that has broken loose? I'm not incredibly familiar with film cameras obviously... In the following photo, there's some sort of figure-eight shaped thing in the middle of the frame: Is this normal, or is this camera just a display piece at this point? Thanks in advance. Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted November 15, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted November 15, 2013 G'day Joshua, that would be the auto-exposure iris aperture, a single odd-shaped leaf swings behind it to close the aperture down.
Joshua Shreve
Indeed it is! I confirmed this by setting the camera to the "auto" setting and moving a flashlight around while it ran. Thank you so much! Best $10 I've spent in a long time! Now to get some film, and find something to shoot! THANKS!
