joshua gallegos
I really didn't like this movie, it just has too many technical flaws and it was a dull effort, compared to 'The Passion of the Christ', every image Caleb Deschanel created was like moving poetry. I thought the movie was filmed on film as I was watching it, because it was so grainy, but to my surprise it was filmed with an Alexa Plus with Arri zoom lenses, it seemed like a very lazy effort by the cinematographer, the composition was uninspired. It really didn't feel cinematic at all, I felt like I was watching a re-enactment on PBS, it was so poorly made!
Phillip Mosness
I think much of the footage was actually made for a tv mini series The Bible, and later more footage was shot for this film. Seems like a theatrical release was a bit risky, but a 28 million opening weekend isn't a flop. I imagine the budget wasn't too high and there is a market for biblical work, but after Passion of the Christ, you kind of need anything new to feel visually inspired, or why bother?
