Gene Sung Posted May 9, 2014 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Obviously Bruno Aveillan is an amazing cinematographer. I was wonder how he gets those really cool looking Bokeh shapes and lens distortions. It's like he puts some type of glass distortion in from of an anamorphic lens or something. Here's a video of what I'm talking about. Thanks for any info. Stuart Brereton Posted May 9, 2014 Share Posted May 9, 2014 He's been discussed here before. Search the archives for more info. He shoots through heavy foreground, glass, crystals, plastic whatever. I'm told he also carries a selection of pieces of glass which are covered in varying degrees of dirt and scratches. Some of his shots look like he has used split diopters, or perhaps just lens elements. It's easy enough to experiment yourself. Use a medium to long lens, say 50 - 85mm (Assuming s35) and play around with whatever translucent objects you can find. Wine glasses, magnifiers, test tubes, water bottles etc. A lot of the effect is down to how the light catches the foreground. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
