Premium Member drew_town Posted May 10, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted May 10, 2005 Greetings, Shooting in low light with an XL? Try this: Turn the shutter down to 1/30 and switch to "Normal" mode. It'll give you a motion look similar to "Frame" mode and allow you that little bit of extra exposure. 1/30 in "Frame" mode is stroby and has a noticable motion blur. Switching to "Normal" at 1/30 smooths out the strobe look but leaves a subtle motion blur that looks more like "Frame" mode than "Normal" mode. Rik Andino
I've actually done this with a PD150 and PD170 Which doesn't have progressive scan mode and it looks very good... It's not shooting 30P but it looks damn close too it. Good Tip.
Josh Bass
Let us not forget the extra resolution you gain by not going to frame mode.
Alvin Pingol
Let us not forget the extra resolution you gain by not going to frame mode. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When decreasing shutter speed to 1/30th, if I'm not mistaken, the camera must still discard and interpolate one of the fields. When using Frame Mode, the green pixel offset aids interpolation - not sure if it's the same with a slow shutter.
Josh Bass
You could be right. I didn't know that. I thought since it was still 60i, you'd still get full rez. My bad.
