Ky Goulden
Hello everyone !My name is Ky and this is my first post so be gentle if I get some rules or topic-placements wrong.I just wanted to find a place to ask a a few questions since there arent many places that actually have real people discussing some of these interesting problems and scenarios and I could use some advice.I'll be buying the A7II for my photography / cinematography work, and later on in the year an A7s ( or possibly an A7RII / A9 if the rumors are true ), however there is a good deal on a 2nd hand Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera with a Nikon Speedbooster.Ill be purchasing the Sony either way but Im debating purchasing the BMPCC and investing in a lens or two, wondering if the RAW capabilities will be SO worth it compared to SLog2. Ive graded both before and both held up well but they were well lit, clean shots so I was curious to know other peoples views on this ?Do you feel the RAW lattitude better with regards to RAW or does SLog2 contain enough lattitude being so flat. Thoughts and opions ?
Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted May 15, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted May 15, 2015 The big difference is that the Blackmagic gives you 10-bit colour depth with it's ProRes files (and I think 12-bit with raw). That gives you massively more tonality to work with in grading than the 8-bit output you'll get from the Sonys.
