Tyler Clark
Might be doing some macro shots soon (100mm) and Im looking for a stable head/movement system to get the smoothest movements. What are some good setups? Any tips and tricks worth sharing?
Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted October 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 A geared head works best, but if a fluid head is your primary option, locking off either your pan or tilt (for straight up/down, left/right moves) can help. And the old rubber band on the end of the pan handle can too. Also, extend your pan handle as far out as it will go can help steady things too. Kristopher S. Kimlin
Agreed with Mark, geared head is the best solution if you are not using a powered head or MOCO unit. Depending on your budget, these can be expensive rentals. With fluid heads, adding tension will help as well as setting up with an additional pan-handle such as a TV studio build up. This will add an additional level of support.
