Paul Mitcheltree
Just saw this on ebay..... offshore, no address. Anyone missing a BL4 ? .... seems too good to be true. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3805538651
Mitch Gross
I saw that one too and was...curious. Note that the seller has zero feedback. I'd certainly use a very reliable and safe payment method before I'd trust this. I'm guessing scam.
Patrick Neary
This yokel has posted a bunch of pictures from Whitehouse's website and listed them on ebay, under several different names.
Paul Mitcheltree
Yes, it is a scam.......... Please DO NOT contact seller for reasons below. Camera was stolen from Panavision Sydney, and they have been informed. When I know more I will post here.
Patrick Neary
I kind of doubt it's stolen equipment- I think there is NO equipment. Literally this person has lifted photos and the exact descriptions from here: http://www.whitehouseav.com/35mm.htm ...and is asking the winner for their bank account number "for wire transfer". I weep for anyone stupid enough to fall for this!
Paul Mitcheltree
>> I kind of doubt it's stolen equipment- I think there is NO equipment. <<< Yes , this is possible, but a few more facts: Camera is in Bali......... serial number matches stolen BL4 from Panavision Sydney. If he ripped off the photo ( obviously he did ) then he also looked for a stolen serial #. Not too bright either way. There are lots of Aussies in Bali. Panavision Sydney hopefully have contacts there who can drop in and inspect the goods (if they exist) ....... lucky lad.
dave edgar
Here is some fun. I emailed the seller and asked if: It uses the large or small BetaSP tapes? If it has the high capacity 3 day batteries? If it has been lubricated recently (for you newbies, SR's generally do not need lubed unless shooting in the arctic) I also asked for the serial number and location. Here is the reply: >Semangatlagi@aol.com >03/25/2004 12:53 PM > > To: dedgar@nospambrownshoe.com > cc: > Subject: Re: Question for seller -- Item #3805537034 > >Dear Dave, > >The Camera s/n is #36050 >Yes,this camera use the larger BetaSP tapes >There are high capacity batteries good for 3 days of filming >There camera has been lubricated recently and i guarantee that camera will >come in good working conditiion without any damage. > >Item will shipped using UPS express from Bali-Indonesia so let me know your >address so i can calculate the shipping cost and insurance first calss to handle >damage in shipment process > >Let me know your offer price > >Thanks Quite fun. Patrick Neary
There were three other Arri "packages" available last night, which have all curiously disappeared. maybe we should all get into a bidding war before this one disappears too!
Paul Mitcheltree
The plot thickens.......... Martin emailed me from Sydney Panavision: >> Thanks for the heads up. I think the seller may have the wrong details - BL 36050 is currently sitting on our shelf in Sydney - I've just seen it with my own eyes! Martin. << PERA still lists # 36050 as stolen from Pana Sydney with 3 x 400ft mags in 2002. I guess they got it back ! His 2 listings on ebay have disappeared........ I asked the seller why his camera was sitting on the shelf in Sydney. Wonder why he hasn't replied.

Helen Bach
There's an Aaton 35-III going for GBP 3,000 at the moment. Unfortunately you don't get any lenses for that price. Sheesh! What a rip-off. Best, Helen Here it is (the final bid was GBP 5,102 - somebody's been stupid)
Mitch Gross
Especially since the actually owner of the Aaton camera pictured has reported the scam to eBay with no results. He's also posted to the CML and other cinematography sites to help protect others.
Helen Bach
Hi Mitch, That's interesting - I also told them it was a scam and got no response. Best, Helen
