Ale Capo
Hi guys, I have a Sekonic L 758-D, which is not 100%ideal for cine. I'd like to set the shutter speed to 1/50th. Since it's not doable, the closer option is 1/60th. However, I can also switch to the option of fps mode without having control on the shutter speed setting anymore. My question is: If I set the fps to 25, does the lightmeter automatically assume that my shutter speed is 1/50? Or should I set 1/60th and not the fps? Hoping this is clear, Thanks! Igor Trajkovski
Yes, when you set your FPS the shutter angle is 180degree by default. So 25fps = 1/50, 24fps = 1/48 etc......I think your meter is set for selecting full shutter speeds, that's why 1/50 is not available. From the manual:It is possible to switch between full, 1/2 and 1/3 shutter speeds with custom setting(see page 44).Enter custom settings mode and change shutter speed step to 1/3.Sekonic L-758D DigitalMaster Quick Guide: EnglishBestIgor
Ale Capo
Thanks for the accurate description, I followed the instruction and got the right shutter speeds. However, by change the shutter speeds to 1/3 also the F is affected and it will give stops like 3 or 6 etc. Is it possible to have shutter speeds 1/3 and stops 1? (2.8-4-5.6 etc.) Thanks again. Igor Trajkovski
I don't know how exactly it is implemented in the Sekonic's.On my Minolta meter i can set in custom menu the steps of the shutter in full, 1/2 and 1/3,while the F number remains displayed as Full F-stop + tenths of a stop ( 2.8 3/10, 4.0 5/10 etc.).There is also a custom option to display the Fstop as direct numbers: (3.1 , 4.7, etc...) butstill corresponding to change in 1/10ths of stop. Are you saying if you select increments in 1/3 and shutter priority mode on your Sekonic, the Fstop number is rounded to Fstop+thirds?BestIgor
Ale Capo
What happen is: When I switch shutter speeds to 1/3 the Fstop will automatically seen in direct numbers (3.1- 4.8 etc) I was wondering if I can have shutter speed in 1/3th and Fstop in full+ tenth of a stop. Thanks for helping!
Igor Trajkovski
On DPreview i found a thread discussing the 1/3 step reading on the meterand it looks like the Fnumbers then are displayed as thedirect Fnumbers in thirds + the remainig decimals as 0,1 and 2. So the scale goes (copy/paste):4.0 04.0 14.0 24.5 04.5 14.5 24.5 35.0 05.0 15.0 25.6 0etc. It seems the combination you like of 1/3 step for shutter and Full Fstop+decimal tenths is not posible. But why not use the FPS?Plenty of them available as the manual states.Should cover your motion picture work fine. And if set to full stops in custom menu, should display as Fstop + decimal tenths.Best Igor
Ale Capo
Indeed, I have no problem using the fps as far as they give me the 180 degree as default. I was just curious if I could get the same settings by using the shutter speeds. Thanks again for clearing my mind. Alessandro
