Optimo Ultra 12x lens specifications

Hi,

 

I was reading about the new lens here.

This is a new lens can be configured in three different versions: S35 (Ø 31.1mm), U35 (Ø 34.6mm) and FF/VV (Ø 46.3mm) with dedicated sets of rear and rings.

 

Few questions about the features given in the link.

 

1. My understanding is Super35= The size of silent 35mm film, U35=4K, FF=Full frame.

What is the difference between Super35 and FF?

 

2. Very short MOD 1.22m/4’1’’ in S35 – 1.24m/4’1’’ in Ultra S35 – lower or equal to 1.5m /5’ in FF/VV

 

What is MOD?

In simple terms Super 35 is the area between 4 perfs of 35mm film, roughly 24mm x 18mm, historically a cine camera format.

 

Full frame is the area between 8 perfs of 35mm film, roughly 36mm x 24mm, historically a still photography format.

 

A 35mm cine camera exposes the film as it runs vertically through the gate, so the 24mm width of the film stock (between perfs) is the long side of the rectangular frame.

 

A 35mm stills camera exposes the film running horizontally through the gate, so the 24mm width of the film is the short side of the rectangular frame.

 

In the digital age these standards have more or less carried over to sensor dimensions, and are format sizes used in both photography and cinematography.

 

MOD is minimum operating distance, how close the lens can focus from the film/sensor plane.

My understanding was Fullframe and Super35 was same in dimensions.

In that case Canon 5DM3 image area is bigger than AlexaXT's.

 

5D is 36 x 24mm and Alexa is 23.76 x 13.37 mm
