ENG viewfinder on camcorder?

Hi,

Does anybody know how you could feed the video-out of a camcorder to a ENG viewfinder? I am aware that an external 12V power source would be needed.

Do adapters exist? (except for the Canon one for the XL1)

Thanks for any info....

Hi,

Mostly they just take power and video signal, yeah, but the connectors can be type specific. I have the workshop manual for the Panasonic AG-DVC200 camera here somewhere, and the pinout for Panasonic standard ENG viewfinder connector is in it if you're interested. I don't know what style the connector is, though - you might have to chop it off and refit some other type.

Edit: Or, you could just google for "viewfinder pinout":

I suspect Sony viewfinders would be more available on the secondhand market. With a bit of ingenuity you could make the tally and battery warning lights work too.

Hi,

S'what I'd do. Just be aware it'll probably draw twice as much current as the XL1 - I hope you have the PAG battery mount for it. If you don't and you're really dedicated, you could get hold of one of those black-box inverters that will take your 7.2V Canon power and give you 12 for the EVF.
