shooting flames/fire

Any tips for best results shooting flames? Mostly wondering if different shutter angles or fps are better or worse? 35mm shooting a logo against flames bars. Also food on black grill with flames inbackground. Any tips appreciated.

A chef who knows how to grill food without burning it. Either that or a fire extinguisher.

hello,

one thing i heard once and seemed very effective for a start is to shoot your flammes with daylight balanced negative. the result will be flames heavyly saturated id reds and yellow making them like a real nice strong fire.

i don't know exactly at what kind of speed you have to shoot, but it seems that 75 fps to 120 fps seems to be a good approach. your flammes will appear to be more powerful that they really are. and you'll get nice movement and massive presence if you carefully chose your point of view and lens.

Big flames and fires give off much more light than you think. I did a video at night with big flames and I shot on 125T stock with a 45-degree shutter more or less wide open (T1.4) to try to get those nice, saturated flames. There are some stills on my site under the band Soilwork.
