  1. This is somewhat of a Mom N' Pop place, but a lab that everyone in town uses for Super-8 and some 16mm reversal pocessing. I can't imagine the assumption that reversal S-8 would go to Telecine, there is not even a Super-8 gate in town. So I would say it's a given that is to be processed for projection. Anyway luckily this footage was not from a crucial project, just home movies in this situation. I have used this place twice for actual projects with budgets/crews and blown processing on those would have been a disaster. Mostly want them to know IF they screwed it up to prevent it in the future. Good opinions - thanks.
  2. I don't understand what this last post means exactly. Sorry to be so dense. I assume you're indicating a processing error? Thanks. Sorry if this post has gone on too long, but glad to have these opinions when I speak to the lab on Monday (refund anyone?)
  3. Thanks for the input. Glad so many have posted. When I called the lab the person who I spoke to (not the lab tech) said "that sounds cool". Not cool if you just want your footage normal.
  4. The strangest thing is that there is the small segment toward the end of the reel where it switches back to "normal" reversal look briefly. I wonder if it's a lab thing?
  5. This is a very strange situation and just wanted to post it here to see if anyone has a take on what is going on. I recently shot a roll of Plus-X B/W Kodak reversal super-8 film (is there negative of this stock?), with my Nizo Super-8. I had the film processed by a place here in MN which I've used many times in the past with no issues before. When I picked up the film today and put it through the viewer the IMAGE IS NEGATIVE! It's a negative image, but this is even stranger-for about 3 seconds in the last 30 seconds of the reel it switches to proper reveral and then goes back to being negative! It's so weird. I called the lab/processor and they had no clue what could be up with this. It has to be a Kodak problem right? Age would not effect film in this way. It can't be more than a year or two old. Also it could not be a camera issue obviously. I can't even imagine it would be a processing issue if they use a reversal process. The weird part is the brief part of the roll which is normal. Do I call Kodak and complain? Any thoughts?
  6. Any tips for best results shooting flames? Mostly wondering if different shutter angles or fps are better or worse? 35mm shooting a logo against flames bars. Also food on black grill with flames inbackground. Any tips appreciated.
  7. A bit of a dumb question perhaps, but what does it mean when the blacks in an image are said to be "crushed"? I've heard this before and generally associate it with a mostly undesirable high contrast look. Just looking for more clarification on the meaning of the term. Thanks
  8. I need tp phase a plasma screen monitor with a 16mm Aaton package. I've not phased a plasma screen before and am not certain about technical requirements. I have a Media Logic frame rate controller. Can this be manually phased around 29.97? 180 shutter. Thanks for any assitance.
  9. Can anyone help me with these lighting terms/lingo. They may be regional (Midwest), but I'd love to know. SPECIAL BALLYHOO GREASE (GREASER) FUNGE (sounds like FOONJ) Thanks!
  10. I would love to get feedback on some tips and tricks for lighting green screen. I am helping out a friend and lighting some green screen sequences on a cyc. The budget is small. Any help? Thanks for the tips and pointers in advance.
  11. What are recommended film stocks (16mm) for shooting blue/green screen? I don't beleive that the Kodak SFX stocks are available in 16. If no one can suggest best, how about worst?
  12. I have often read about rating a stock at a different ISO (for instance 800 T "rated at" 1600). What are the technical considerations for doing this? How do you set your stop/meter? Also what are the objectives generally? I would imagine this would push the grain, what else? Thanks for any discussion.
  13. I am wondering where (online) I can find the film safe speeds for filmming with "non flicker free" ballast's? Thanks for any advice.
  14. I am an assistant needing to add a multi-format framing chart to my kit. Any advice on where I could pick this up? Thanks in advance.
  15. Having frequent opportunities to be on set and watch the lighting process I notice the frequent practice of 4X4 floppies being used as "negative fill". I get this practice somewhat, but must say the effect seems very subtle. Can anyone explain the concept of negative fill? Thanks-pretty basic question I assume.
