Do I need to upgrade my camera for this job?

I was wondering what the quality difference is between my camera, the Canon GL1, with the XL-2, Pan DVX-100a, and the HD cams. I will be shooting a super low budget feature with intentions of straight to video and I'm wondering if I should use my GL1 or if need to buy or rent one of these others. I know the shooting experience will be better, more features, etc. But if I accept that difference, will there be any image quality difference that will make it look amature? Also I'm concerned about format (16x9)? and lenses.

 

Should I upgrade? Are the extra features worth it? Is 24fps worth it. What am I sacrificing?
